“Keep fighting” is my mantra for a reason. It reminds me that every battle is worth fighting. You never know where you'll find success.

In my journey to diagnose my Familial Mediterranean Fever, I endured years of medical tests. Most test results were inconclusive. Many days, I considered giving up on everything.

I imagined it was all in my mind, but high inflammation markers proved I wasn't making it up.

Then, I met an internist willing to help. He not only figured out my illness but started me on the right treatment plan.

How did he succeed where so many others had failed? He was determined not to quit. He took my medical chart home with him and researched my symptoms one by one.

His efforts changed my life. It gave me a name to describe the hell I was living in.

Before I met him, I decided he was going to be the last doctor I saw. There was no money left to throw at trying to find a diagnosis. Still, I decided to try one last time.

My internist admitted he was stumped during our first appointments, but he had a warm determination that made me believe this time would be different. He tried one more time and found success.

You never know what one more try will do for you. There’s no counter that says, “Try 396 will be a success.” You just have to keep trying.

Describing his path to creating the lightbulb, Thomas Edison said, “I have not failed 10,000 times — I’ve successfully found 10,000 ways that will not work.”

Imagine if he had stopped on try 9,999. Would we have lightbulbs today?

I know you’ve been trying for a long time. You’re tired, and life is a heavy burden some days, but your success might be as close as tomorrow. You have to keep trying. Tomorrow might be the day you create your lightbulb.

Until next time, keep fighting.
