What Would Happen If You Tried?

Potential is a marvelous thing. In the frame of a second, anything is possible. The tiniest moment can change your life.

Every time I publish a post online or send out an email newsletter, I think about potential. My creation could be a viral hit or an epic fail. There’s no way to know for sure, but the potential is there.

On Monday nights, I check my stats on various sites. I’m always most interested in my open rate for my email newsletter. Each time I click that button to go to the stats page, part of me expects the open rate to be at zero.

Happily, that has never happened, and some weeks it even hits as high as 65%. My worry is almost always for nothing.

“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” — T. S. Eliot

It’s easy to forget about potential when you have a mental illness. The tendency is to fixate on your limitations rather than on the things you can still do. What would happen if you thought of the possibilities?

I never thought I could run a successful blog or publish a book, but the blog is now four years old, and the first book is on my shelf. I considered the potential and moved forward despite my doubts.

Every success gives me the power to try new things. Each goal achieved helps me see new possibilities.

For today, think about the potential in your life. What things can you still do? What seems beyond your reach but may still be possible? If you never try, you’ll never know what you can do.

Until next time, keep fighting.
