In the end, energy is everything. Throughout the day I'm checking in. What is my energy level? My mood? What emotions have I been experiencing?
Emotions are a great feedback mechanism to tell us the style of stories we've been telling ourself. Sometimes I can't remember all the stories necessarily but more the way they've been feeling.
If my energy is terribly low and normal things are out of reach, I go for a fast paced walk and get oxygen in my system. Listen to some preselected songs. Lay in silence. Watch a comedy. Do anything I can to shift my energy and emotions, if only a little. Make this your intent.
When I improve my energy levels, my inner conversation improves with it. When we change that, we change our experience.
Remember though. You can only do the best you can with what you've got. Sometimes you're going to feel terrible and depression isn't anything you're doing wrong. So be kind to yourself as they say.
